I believe that education will help to give children and adults the tools they need to succeed not only in their personal lives but also in the community. To do this a teacher needs to be able to do a few things like recognize what their role is, be open to continuously learning new things not only from taking classes but also from other teachers and the students. A teacher needs to know how to communicate which includes listening. A teacher should not be afraid of saying I do not know the answer and be willing to find out what the answer is then get back to the student or class with the answer. Teachers also need to make sure that their students are safe and comfortable in their environment.
I believe that everyone learns in different ways, no two people are exactly alike, and will use a variety of methods and techniques in order to learn. Some examples are music, motion, reading, lecture, stories, arts, and crafts. This means that the teacher has to be able to diversify their lesson plans to help their students with the many different ways that they learn.
My goal as a teacher is to help as many children as I can onto the road for success. This does not always mean academically. For some it could be learning social skills, or how to take care of their own self. For example being able to make a meal, wash their cloths, get groceries, or even ride the bus.
For me to succeed as a teacher I will have to be able to listen to my students and not be judgmental. I will have to be patient with my students. I will need to have control of my classroom and have it set up in a manner that will not only help me to teach them but also so that they are able to help themselves. I will have to be an effective communicator. We as a class will need to create our class rules together and in a manner that ensures they go along with the school rules also. I hope that I will be able to incorporate Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Sharing, and Safety into these rules. If I successfully incorporate these things into the rules it will make for a happier, healthier, and less stressful experience for all of us.
